July 15th Race Results Tulsa

Race Overview

July 15 in the MAKO Outlaw Racing schedule will not soon be forgotten, Although a few of us might like to. With the 102 degree temperature and the Tulsa Raceway Park track temps approaching 170 degrees this was not a race for the casual participant or spectator. Getting the 10.5 cars to hook up early in the day was tricky to say the least and remained a tough endeavor even after the sun settled. Those that endured the heat witnessed some great racing, 2 first time winners and a lot of shuffling in the points.

World Wide Musclecars Outlaw 10.5

Points leader Todd Kitchen placed his Turbocharged Firebird on the pole with a 7.38 and was looking to put a death grip on the points lead, as 3 of the top 5 cars were missing from this event. Number 2 Qualifier Mark Weredehausen Moved onto the second round with a 7.52 blast against a tire spinning Cliff Akins. Todd slowed a little from his qualifying to a 7.52 but it was enough to get around a struggling Ron Ivey. Mark's matchup in the Semifinal was with the #2 car in the points Zack Weidels Nitrous 68 Camaro. Zack had a good lead at the tree but his 7.76 was no match for Marks 7.54. Todd eased his car down the track with a bye run to his second final of the year. Mark's 2000 Camaro was away from the tree first with 6 hundredths advantage but Todd's qualifying form returned getting the win 7.32 to Marks 7.50.

Wild Street

New comer Ray Taylor Qualified his 68 Camaro number one with a stout 8.14. Number 2 Qualifier was Ray SaSina who pulled his 64 Plymouth Fury all the way from Denver Colorado to come and play with us, and play he did. Mike qualified with an 8.80 on the brakes with the laundry out well before the finish line. Ray Taylor was matched up with Converter builder Marty Chance and his Procharger powered 87 Mustang. The race was close to the 1000' mark when Ray got loose and ended up in the wall handing the victory to Mr. Chance. Mike was busy running the other Procharger car in the field, Scott Willis and his blown Hurst Olds. Troubles at the starting line for Scott let Mike continue his toying with the field as he pedaled to an 8.75 win. In the finals Mikes Nitrous Plymouth was better at the tree, but just barely, his .020 to Marty's .023 put him just slightly ahead, with the race well in hand Mike had troubles with traction on the big end getting really loose, and it took all of his 8.66 to stay ahead of Marty's 8.67 to squeak out a win, and left us wondering just how fast the big Mopar really is.

Real Street

Top three in the points Dewayne Mills, Alan Long and Jason Scott, looked to keep the party amongst themselves but Chris Morse sneaked his Nitrous Big Block Chevy Nova in to the second spot of Qualifying. Dewayne used an 8.62 to take the top spot with his 68 Camaro. Jason Scott and Alan Long meet up with each other in the second round Alan got the jump with an amazing .002 reaction but a broken ring gear in his 69 Camaro ended any hopes of a win and Jason eased to a 9.11 to move to the Semis. Jared Trembath running his Procharged 66 Nova out of Frederick Colorado, was using good fortunes to move to semis. a first round bye and car troubles for Mills put Jared into the Semis to face Chris Morse who had trouble making a full run on his second round bye. Jared had a near 4 tenths of a second advantage in reaction and made his best pass of the day, an 8.83 but Chris was charging to an 8.35 to take the win by 1 hundredth. Chris's 8.35 is the fastest real street pass since last year when the guys were running in near perfect weather and produced the 8.33 record, Chris did this in the worst conditions possible. Jason Scott used his semifinal bye to run an 8.69 and get ready to match up with Chris in the finals. Chris was still having problems cutting a light and gave up almost 3 tenths to Jason Scott who produced a Bracket like 8.69 in the finals but Chris was good enough again running a very close at the finish 8.39. Chris may have won this battle but Jason made advances in the war leaving this race with Real Street points lead.

Daves Claremore RV ProMod

We had an abbreviated ProMod field as only 2 cars showed up, both were late model Camaro's but that is where the similarities ended. Dave Pierce with his 737 inch nitrous 2001 Camaro and Willie Brainerd with his blown alcohol Hemi 96 Camaro. Qualifying and the finals looked to be a best of three match race as Dave and Willie swapped quicker passes in qualifying but when it came to the finals it was all Dave as he had Willie covered at both ends of the track 6.60 to Willies coasting 7.28

Top Sportsman

Top Sportsman is really turning into a good looking class with more 7 and low 8 second cars coming out to take part in the 8.99 and quicker fast bracket class. Three cars made the semis, Father and Son Kirk and Eric Piepke were on opposite sides of the ladder Eric picked up the bye and Kirk paired his 7 second 97 Cutlass against May 20th winner Jerry Gendreau and his 88 Cutlass, Jerry got out with a near perfect .001 reaction time but Kirk red lighted away any chance he had at a win sending Jerry on to meet up with his son Eric's 95 Beretta, Eric got almost 2 hundredths advantage at the tree and ran a .022 over 8.622 on a 8.60 to take the win over Jerry's .027 off 8.747 on an 8.72 dial

10.0 Index

Number 1 and Number 2 in the points meet up with each other in the semifinals, #1 Steve Bishop got the double breakout win over #2 Mark Scott in his 67 Dart, Mark had the advantage at the tree but could not get on the brakes enough to keep from running farther under than Steve. Robert Swartzlander took a single and ran a close 10.04 with his 92 Camaro to set up for the finals against Steve. Robert was able to dial in his car running a 10.001 but it was all given up at the tree, Steve's 71 Duster was out with more than a tenth of a second advantage his 10.066 easily bettered Marks near perfect ET for the Win.

12.0 Index

At the start of the semis John Hatcher was paired with the 90 S-10 pick up of Jeremy Stanton and John used his consistently good reactions to take the early advantage and never looked back taking and easy 12.04 to 12.17 win. Ronnie Pollard put his 55 Chevy into the semis to face the 5 speed shifted 80 Z28 of Ted Pledger, Ronnie took a big lead at the tree and though it looked close at the finish line Ted had to run a way under 11.93 to stay close with Pollards winning 12.04. In the Finals Hatcher in his 70 Nova continued to chop at the tree his .006 reaction and 12.05 forced Ronnie into a breakout 11.98 giving John the 12.0 win.

FASTCHIP 13.50 Index

Points leader Brad Fowler brought out a new car for this race as the heat had slowed his normal 13.50 Duster up to much to be competitive, The car change did not hurt his winning ways much as he moved into the finals with a great light and the victory over the 75 Camaro of Carlene McLaughlin. Brad would face the 83 S-10 of Barry Horner in the finals who moved on by way of Bye run in the Semis. Brad was away first with nearly a tenth of a second advantage and just hung a fender on Barry and ran out to a 13.69 win over Barry's losing 13.66
