 Broke- Brian Sutton6.958
  Broke- Jason Roberts5.671

Well we had 17 cars start qualifying but a driveline failure for Brian Sutton and minor engine problems for Jason Roberts sidelined them for eliminations.

Qualifying went without a hitch, we ended up with the top qualifiers spread out by a mere 35 hundredths of a second, top qualifier was Dewayne Mills in the Wheeler/Mills Big Block Chevy powered Mustang.

This was an interesting field, the late model Mustangs against the vintage Chevy's and 1 Buick, with a Buick Powerplant to boot! There were 8 mustangs, but three were sporting Chevy Power, there were 3 Novas, 3 Chevelles, 2 Camaros and the lone 70 Buick GS. All but three entry's were using Nitrous as their power adder of choice, 2 were Prochargers and 1 Lone Turbo Car.

First lets talk about the number 13 and 14 qualifiers, Mark Faulkner and Jerry Chambers, both found out John Cook was having WAAYYY to much fun at his first MAKO outing and they decided to join the fun... Both knew they were bring Butter Knives to a Gun fight but they were coming to get started anyways... Both vow to be loaded for bear come the next event at Thunder Valley.

Mark with his 396 powered 67 Chevelle drew Mike FatCat White in the first round Mark gave a valiant effort and knew chopping down the tree would be his only chance, he pushed to hard and redlighted sending Mike a test pass with a winning 5.35.

Jerry had to pit his 400 Buick powered 70 GS against Travis "Quazie" Thomason. Jerry might have hoping for a mistake from Quazie's Mustang but Travis posted an .030 light and sped away with win 5.32 to 6.75.

Number 15 qualifier Kevin Bales struggled in qualifying with his Nitrous Small Block Ford Mustang but finally got a handle the new Nitrous setup stepping way up over his qualifying effort, unfortunately it was next to the best run of eliminations, Chris Derrick was busy getting off the line first and laying down a winning 5.24 to Kevins 5.70

Josh Gill found himself setting in the number 12 spot with his 359 ci Nitrous Mustang earning him the right to run Alan Long. Josh did post a career best 6.003 but was no match for Alans 5.27.

John Cook found himself in rematch of the semis from Thunder Valley, John would be putting his 69 Chevelles nitrous 555 ci Big Block Chevy up against Clint Downs Procharged entry again, John came up on the short end for a second time. Clint took the win 5.51 to 5.76.

Jerry "Tangle Eye" Stephenson resurrected an old MAKO favorite, the Orange Nova that garnered Mike White a Number One from the first year of MAKO. Jerry ran some impressive MPH during qualifying, 136MPH, so there was definitely power there for his match up with David Comstock. Well there was either to much power or to much traction as Jerry tried his best Space Shuttle impression, the big wheelie ended the race early David scooted on for the win with a 5.68.

Dewayne was the last car down the track in the first round, having the only bye of Eliminations made for a no worries pass as he eased the Mustang down the track to a 5.26

You know more cars makes for ALOT more typing..... Adam you want this Job back?

Second Round

All of the top qualifiers except for #8 advanced past the first round so we had numbers 1-7 and number 9 in second round. The passes were definitely going to be closer and each round would be tougher with the top half being so equally matched.

First up was Clint Downs, runner up from the first event of the year, he was fighting with water getting into his intake tubing from a leak in the intercooler but he was continuing to run anyway. This matchup would be Clints Black ProCharged SBC Nova vs Mike Whites Black Nitous BBC Camaro.

Side Note( we certainly seem to have alot of Black cars)

But lets continue Clint took a decent edge at the tree getting out first but Mike equaled his qualifying effort taking the win 5.30 to Clints 5.45

Travis Thomason and Alan Long were up next. Quazies Silver Mustang must have thought this was a Bracket race, .030 light first round .031 light second, 5.32 ET first round 5.32 ET second 135 mph first round 135 mph second (Okay it was 134.89 in the first and 135.5 in the second, but close enough!) the interesting thing of this race was that both cars were identical in 60 ft and 330 ft , but after that the Musi Horsepower in Alans car took over Alans 5.29 just barely edged out Quazies 5.32.

Fred Silbernagel was ready to do battle with Chris Derrick, Turbo Black Mustang vs ProCharger Copper Mustang, Fred had toyed with turning his car over backwards during qualifying but excellent driving kept him from tearing anything up, but it had to be looming in the back of his head. Both cars were out with nearly identical reactions, Fred .102 to Chris's .103 Fred had the mph advantage 137 to 135 but it was Chris with ET advantage taking the win 5.24 to Freds 5.36.

David Comstock was going to try and equal his effort from Thunder Valley, putting out Dewayne Mills.. He handed Dewayne his first ever first round loss in Real Street in the season opener... Black Mustang with blue flames vs Black Mustang with Blue flames.. Chevy Power vs Chevy Power.. Big Block Chevy vs Small Block Chevy.....David did his Job chopping nearly a tenth out of the tree on Dewayne but the Small block just did'nt have the power to hold the lead. Dewayne evens the battle a 1 and 1 taking the win with a 5.27 to Davids 5.74

Win Alan long #5 .047 5.295 @ 138.29
Lose Travis Thomason #4 .031 5.329 @ 135.50

Win Mike White #3 .061 5.305 @ 136.18
Lose Clint Downs #6 .031 50454 @ 129.34

Win Chris Derrick #2 .103 5.248 @ 135.09
Lose Fred Silbernagel #7 .102 5.363 @ 137.81

Win Dewayne Mills #1 .112 5.272 @ 140.08
Lose David Comstock #9 .022 5.740 @ 122.01

Third Round

Again we have 1 car busting into the top qualifiers..number 1, 2 and 3 make it but number 5 took out number 4.

Mike "FatCat" White would face Chris Derrick in the first semi pairing. Knowing that Chris was off a pair of 5.24's Mike was going to have to step up the power to the Black 68 Camaro's 565 ci BBC.. he did find some extra power picking up 2 hundredths and nearly 2 MPH but it was not enough as Chris continued with his consistent performance taking the win 5.24 to Mikes 5.28.

Alan Long is sporting a new look this year, solid black with no stripes... making the car look as menacing as its performance has been over the years... but I am not sure Dewayne (Alan's semifinal opponent) was paying any attention. Well Alan had been paying attention to Dewaynes performance and knew he had to pull something out of his hat, Alan had been hazing the tires on most every pass so upping the power was not option so he was going to have to take a shot at the tree and a shot is what he took.. Alan was away with an.006 reaction he had over 6 hundredths advantage but it still wasnt enough to stay ahead of Mills. Dewayne sped away to the low ET of the event 5.20 to Alans 5.32

Win Chris Derrick #2 .099 5.241 @ 134.79
Lose Mike White #3 .155 5.285 @ 137.40

Win Dewayne Mills #1 .068 5.203 @ 139.92
Lose Alan Long #5 .006 5.328 @ 138.16

Finals

Well this is the second Race of the year and the second Ford vs Chevy Final, we must be doing something right, or the Race Gods just love us, Maybe Both!

Chris Derrick driving Kit Longs ProCharger SBF Mustang vs Dewayne Mills in the Mills/Wheeler Nitrous BBC Mustang (it wasnt black vs black!) Dewayne had purposely been running in the Left Lane all night (most were taking the right lane with lane choice) thinking it might come down to him and Chris in the finals and he thought Kit was holding back on the power till he needed it. Well it was Dewayne who came into the final with lane choice and instead of putting each of them into an unfamiliar lane Dewayne stayed with the left leaving Chris to run in the right..

Dewayne took a slight advantage at the tree and both cars were having trouble maintaining a straight pass, both cars ended up well out out of the groove, Dewayne marched on to another 5.20 pass as Chris slowed to a 5.27 handing Dewayne the win and the points lead to boot...

Win Dewayne Mills #1 5.20
Lose Chris Derrick #2 5.27
